Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) provides learners access to excellent and affordable education that, through partnerships in the local and national community, gives them the tools they need to achieve their dreams and find success in their career and in life.
FAMU serves nearly 10,000 students from the United States and 70 countries around the world through its main campus in Tallahassee, Florida and its satellite campuses around the state including Orlando, Crestview, Tampa, Jacksonville, and Miami.
With a legacy of excellence, the university seeks to improve education today, partners with industry to prepare students for life, and strives to create the university of tomorrow.
“Industry partners and HBCUs both have the responsibility to create collaborative opportunities that are mutually beneficial. Without the commitment from your senior leadership and throughout the ranks, this could be a challenge for both parties. To be most effective, the collaborative opportunities should be elevated to strategic partnerships with the following elements: an investment in sustainable donated resources – financial, technological, human, and time, to support student success, research, curricular enhancement, and career readiness.”
Larry Robinson, Ph.D., President
A Legacy of Excellence
Founded in 1887, FAMU is an 1890 land-grant university, and the nation’s highest-ranked Historically Black Colleges and University (HBCUs) that has always been an advocate for the advancement of knowledge, the development of community, and the empowerment of individuals.
While continuing its mission to serve those in the African American community, FAMU embraces diversity, inclusion, and scholarship.
FAMU offers 100 degree programs from the bachelor to doctoral levels in targeted industries such as Education, Law, Business, Pharmacy, Architecture and Engineering, Journalism, Nursing, Science and Technology and more.
The university also offers several accelerated programs in which undergraduate students begin as a freshman and end with an advanced degree in the areas of pharmacy (six-year PharmD program), business (five-year professional MBA program), and law (3+3 accelerated JD program).
But the school’s primary mission? To become a premier doctoral research facility that prepares students not only to enter the workforce, but to innovate, address social issues, and provide transformational solutions to problems in their community and around the world. To do so, FAMU partners with some of the top companies in the country.
Beyond Just a Job
Preparing students to go beyond just getting a job or starting a career, FAMU is intentional in choosing its corporate partners when it comes to both internships and permanent job placement. Today this includes companies like Capital One, DaVita, Inc., Lockheed Martin, Wells Fargo, Deutsche Bank, and Honeywell.
Through these partnerships, FAMU became what other universities aspire to be.
The University of Tomorrow
With its goal to become an aspirational institution for others, the university focused on student success, productive and engaged faculty, research innovation, and lifetime passion for the core values of Scholarship, Excellence, Openness, Fiscal Responsibility, Accountability, Collaboration, Diversity, Service, Fairness, Courage, Integrity, Respect, Collegiality, Freedom, Ethics and Shared Governance.
To further this effort, FAMU has maintained its Carnegie R2 – High Research Activity – designation for three years in a row. In 2021, FAMU received $66 million in research awards and $50 million in research spending, and there are no plans for stopping there.
In building the university of tomorrow, FAMU will continue to nurture and grow industry partnerships and offer the education students need today, tomorrow, and beyond.
